    Description

    This is an old cast copper cup used for casting test samples at the former White Pine copper mine at White Pine, Michigan.
    A small quantity of molten copper was poured into this mold to create a sample for quality control purposes.
    The cup weighs 4.6  pounds and is three inches high, 3-1/4 inches in diameter.
    Includes one of the test samples poured; molds for casting copper were themselves made of cast copper, and the insides were coated with bone ash so the cast copper poured into them would fall out.
    I have never seen another one of these.
    Ingots were being poured up until 1982 when the mine began producing pure copper by the electrolytic process.
